Shreyash Subham Patnaik and Prakruti Rout bagged a double for Cuttack by winning the title in open and girls categories respectively in the Odisha State U-9 Chess Championship, which was organised by Ganjam District Chess Association, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association at Gurukul International Public School in Berhampur from June 3 to 5.
As many as 77 players including 27 girls participated in the three-day championship. Soyamsree Mohanty (Sundargarh) and Yashita Rout (Khurda) finished runner-up in open and girls group respectively.
Top two finishers in both open and girls cetegories qualified to represent Odisha in the National U-9 Chess Championship, scheduled to be held in Punjab from August 22 to 30, 2016.
